Where We Were
We started with a well adapted, locally established, commercial angus herd whose sole objective was to wean a calf and rebreed each and every year. This foundational herd has provided hardiness, longevity, and epigenetically adapted animals to build our beef program around. Over the years we have scoured the US and hand selected some of the most outstanding Full blooded Wagyu Cows and Bulls to integrate into our herd. These fullbloods came from multiple herds throughout the states with the sole objective of adding beef quality genetic potential to our existing herd and providing an additional fullblooded Wagyu beef product line for customers who really want to treat themselves to an exceptional eating experience.
Where We Are
Since the addition of Wagyu to our operation, we have aggressively culled our herd to fit within our context. We demand an incredible requirement from our cattle: Survive North West Colorado, wean a calf every year, rebreed every year, and produce the finest quality beef on little to no inputs. This is a tall task and not every animal is suited to handle the harsh winters and high elevations of North West Colorado! Each and every year we improve our genetic pool and refine our culling criteria to achieve a little more from every generation and we are really beginning to see the results in the field and on our table!
Where We Are Going
So many decisions made in the commercial cattle industry are focused surrounding individual sectors within the industry and are made in complete isolation of the end product, the Beef! At Yampa Valley Ranch, we own our animals throughout the entire production cycle, from conception to your plate. Because of this, we are able to make generational decisions at the Cow-Calf level with the sole purpose of improving the beef quality for our customers. We will continue to refine our herd, improve our practices, and produce a healthy and delicious eating experience for our customers while improving our natural environment along the way!
